Here's a report from Steve Redick, along with additional photos from Dan Shevlin:
About 0500 on Tuesday, January 7th, in the town of Norridge. It was sub-zero temperatures—extremely cold. The fire occurred in a large home, almost like a mansion. I assume it used modern lightweight construction techniques, including truss assemblies. The fire was located at a small intersection that was only accessible from two directions. Firefighters encountered heavy fire and had some severe challenges getting water, likely due to frozen hydrants.
Several people were reported trapped or missing when the fire department arrived, and search efforts were made. However, I believe all occupants were accounted for early in the operation. Despite this, the fire spread rapidly and eventually consumed the entire structure, which was later torn down during the day. A few handlines and the Leyden aerial pipe were used, and they eventually called for a tanker from Prospect Heights to supply the Schiller Park tower. I had already left by that point. Attached are some of the many images I captured.
