The Arlington Heights Fire Department was called to the 1900-block of North Spruce Terrace around 8:16 a.m. after reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters entered the home and discovered a 75-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife. They were rushed to Northwest Community Hospital but both passed away shortly after being admitted.
The fire was fully under control by 8:44 a.m., with assistance from neighboring fire departments. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire began in the kitchen, and the state fire marshal is now conducting a full investigation to determine the exact cause.

An elderly couple lost their lives in a tragic house fire on Thursday morning in Arlington Heights. This marks the third deadly fire in the northwest suburbs in recent weeks. The victims have been identified as Lewis Smith, 75, and Joan Smith, 72, residents of the 1900 block of Spruce Terrace.
The couple was found unresponsive at their home just after 8 a.m. and taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
