Polycarbonate: Many institutional foodservice operators opt for polycarbonate tumblers due to their near indestructibility. They are also one of the clearest material options available, often used to mimic the appearance of glass in specific designs. In high-usage environments, polycarbonate tumblers are chosen for their break resistance, with textured surfaces to hide wear and tear and scratches that might accumulate over time. However, polycarbonate does contain BPA, which is a drawback for some users. Copolymer: Copolymer tumblers are also frequently seen in institutional foodservice settings like schools, healthcare facilities, and long-term care centers. While these tumblers are highly durable, they are not typically found in restaurants because the material is opaque, and many customers prefer to see their drinks. SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile Resin): This BPA-free material is often used in high-use operations due to its durability and chemical resistance, ensuring it doesn't show wear or become cloudy from repeated dishwasher cycles. SAN tumblers are also a cost-effective choice, though they tend to crack more easily than polycarbonate when dropped. Tritan: Manufactured by Eastman, Tritan is also known as copolyester. It's designed to resemble glass and is BPA-free. Tritan tumblers are highly durable and are expected to last longer than polycarbonate and SAN tumblers.
