Towns discuss sharing fire station

The Niles Herald-Spectator recently published an article detailing ongoing conversations between the villages of Niles and Morton Grove about the potential for a shared fire station.

The mayors of Niles and Morton Grove are currently exploring the idea of pooling resources to construct a combined firehouse. This proposal, still in its early stages, could offer cost savings and operational efficiency for both communities.

Niles Mayor Andrew Przybylo suggested that building one new facility might be more economical than repairing two aging stations. He emphasized that while the fire departments would remain separate, a shared location could streamline operations and reduce long-term costs. Przybylo noted that discussions with Morton Grove Mayor Dan DiMaria are still at a very preliminary stage, and no official decisions have been made yet.

The Morton Grove Fire Department currently operates from two locations: its main station at the corner of Lincoln and Callie avenues, and a second station at 8954 Shermer Road. Niles has two fire stations as well—one located at Dempster Street and Cumberland Avenue, and the other at 6611 Jarvis Road.

Przybylo pointed out that both fire stations in Niles and Morton Grove are in need of significant upgrades. Given the high costs of renovations, he believes that constructing a new, shared facility could be a more practical solution. “If we have to spend millions to fix our current buildings, and Morton Grove does the same, it might make more sense to build one new station instead,” he explained during an interview. “It’s better to invest in a single, modern facility rather than maintain two older ones.”

He also highlighted that the two villages are geographically close, making a centralized station logical. In fact, fire trucks from each village already respond to emergencies in the other's area. A shared station could improve response times and coordination.

However, several challenges remain before the plan can move forward. These include selecting a suitable location and determining how to fund the project. So far, progress has been slow, but Przybylo remains optimistic. Ryan Horne, the village administrator of Morton Grove, said his community isn’t opposed to the idea and is open to further discussion.

Specialty Chemical Manufacturing Industry

These chemicals, used in industries such as petrochemicals, power generation, and industrial heating, need to withstand extreme conditions without degrading or losing effectiveness. Key aspects include developing additives that improve heat transfer efficiency, reduce corrosion, and prevent deposit formation. This requires deep understanding of chemical properties, process engineering, and industry-specific needs, ensuring optimal performance and sustainability in thermal oil systems.
