Vintage CFD photos – 5-11 Alarm, July 1970

This message comes from Steve Redick:

I recently came across some old photos in my collection. I'm not entirely sure who they were originally taken by, but I think they might have been captured by Jack Connors. These photos date back to July 6, 1970, at a 5-11 and 1 alarm call at 1748 N Ashland. The next day, Snorkel 7 was operating on the site when a wall collapsed, striking the basket and tragically killing Jack Walsh. Later, the area was turned into a park, but it eventually fell into disrepair. As a result, the memorial marker was moved to Engine 55's station, where it is now well maintained. These images show the extent of the damage to the apparatus and give us a glimpse into just how devastating this tragedy was.
