Warehouse fire in Bedford Park, 10-6-16

This report comes from Josh Boyajian:

This afternoon (Thursday, October 6, 2016), the Bedford Park Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 6650 S. Oak Park Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a two-story building that housed a recycling center. Initial engine companies quickly deployed lines, while Tower 709 and Truck 31 extended their ladders to the roof to begin ventilation efforts.

Inside the building, crews encountered heavy smoke and heat, indicating a significant fire in progress. Multiple handlines were used to control and extinguish the blaze. As the fire was brought under control, MABAS 10 MVU was called in to assist with smoke removal, helping to clear the building and improve visibility for both emergency personnel and residents nearby.

Several photos taken by Josh Boyajian capture key moments during the incident, including firefighters operating on the roof, cutting through an overhead door, and using a Pierce tower ladder. Additional images show Engine 710 and Engine 711 responding to the scene, as well as a Ford Expedition belonging to the Lyons Fire Department on standby. The MABAS 10 MVU unit was also seen actively working to remove smoke from the building after the fire was out.
