Warehouse fire in Bedford Park, 10-6-16

This is from Josh Boyajian:

Today, Thursday, October 6th, 2016, the Bedford Park Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 6650 S Oak Park Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke coming from a two-story building that housed a recycling center. The first arriving engines quickly deployed lines, while Tower 709 and Truck 31 extended their main lines to the roof to begin ventilation efforts.

Inside the building, crews encountered heavy smoke and quickly worked to control the fire using multiple handlines. The scene was chaotic, with thick smoke filling the interior, making visibility very limited. Firefighters had to work carefully to ensure they could reach the source of the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

As the fire began to subside, MABAS 10 MVU was brought in to help clear the remaining smoke from the building. The operation went smoothly, and the fire was eventually brought under control. Local residents were kept informed throughout the incident, and no injuries were reported.

Joshua Boyajian captured several images of the response, including firefighters operating the aerial ladder, cutting through overhead doors, and using pike poles to break windows. The photos also show Engine 710, Engine 711, and the Pierce tower ladder from Bedford Park FD. Additionally, a Ford Expedition belonging to the Lyons Fire Department was seen on the scene, likely used for command or support purposes.

It's always impressive to see how quickly emergency services respond and how well they work together during these types of incidents. Thank you, Josh, for sharing these great photos and the detailed account of the event.
