China First Airlines Shenyang Dawn Aviation Engine (Group) Co., Ltd. has entered into a cooperation framework agreement with GE Aviation from the United States for the production of CF34-10A series civil aircraft engines in Shenyang. This marks China's first major project in the development of civil passenger aircraft engines, representing the initial stage of collaboration between China’s national engine program and Western countries.
The signing ceremony was attended by Lin Zuoming, General Manager of China First Airlines; Joyce, Vice President of GE Aviation; Wang Ying, Deputy Mayor of Shenyang; Hu Wenming, Deputy General Manager of China First Airlines; Li Yuhai, and representatives from the Commission of National Defense Science and Technology and the Civil Aviation Administration. The event was presided over by Ma Fuan, Assistant General Manager of China First Aviation and President of the Engine Division.
The CF34-10A engine was selected as the power unit for the ARJ21-700 regional jet, and Yihang Dawn signed a letter of intent with GE Aviation for the CF34-10A project. Some CF34-10A engines were also assembled and tested by Yihang Dawn.
At the ceremony, GE Aviation Vice President Joyce, Small Engine President Newzent, China Aviation Deputy General Manager Li Yuhai, and Yihang Liming General Manager Jiang Wei delivered speeches. Li Yuhai emphasized that this cooperation marked the first step in international collaboration for China's civil aviation turbofan engine industry. He noted that this achievement demonstrates China's ability to manufacture international civil aircraft engines for the first time and signifies a new phase in the partnership between the two sides.
It is reported that since the early 1980s, Yihang Dawn has maintained a sincere partnership with GE in the processing of gas turbine components. Over more than 20 years, their cooperation has expanded significantly, achieving mutual benefits and shared growth. This time, after evaluating Yihang Dawn’s current assembly and testing capabilities, GE concluded that the company is fully capable of handling the assembly and testing of the CF34-10A engine. With technical support from GE, Yihang Dawn will carry out the CF34-10A assembly and testing in four stages, building a dedicated production line to meet the demand for the engine, which powers the ARJ21 aircraft.
This project is a key part of China Aviation One Airway’s “Three General Equivalent†strategy and aligns with the overall planning for the development of Liaoning Province’s civil aviation industry. It contributes to enhancing the province’s overall level and comprehensive strength in the sector.
Jiang Wei stated that Yihang Dawn will use the new regional aircraft as a breakthrough point and the CF34-10A engine assembly and testing as its entry into the civilian engine market. This will help the company gain insight, learn, and master advanced foreign aviation engine manufacturing and testing technologies. Based on this foundation, the company aims to further improve China’s aviation industry system, realize the transformation from a major aviation nation to an aviation power, and enhance the country’s overall strength.
