VTI has launched the groundbreaking SCP1000 series of pressure sensors, offering exceptional accuracy and ultra-low power consumption, making them ideal for altimeter applications. This product line spans a wide range of measurement capabilities, from 100 kPa (SCP1000-D01) to 1600 kPa (SCP1000-D02), covering both atmospheric and deep water pressure scenarios. As a pioneer in 3D-MEMS technology, VTI's absolute pressure sensor delivers sub-meter resolution and 1-meter accuracy under standard conditions, opening up new possibilities for commercial and industrial uses.
The SCP1000 features a compact design, including a 3D-MEMS absolute pressure sensor unit, an integrated ASIC, and a robust LDS-MID housing with dimensions of 6.1mm in diameter and 1.7mm in height. The ASIC plays a crucial role by providing a serial interface, along with temperature data, adjustable correction factors, and compensation for temperature drift and sensitivity. The sensor supports four operational modes—high-resolution, high-speed, ultra-low power, and low-power—to balance performance and energy efficiency based on specific application needs.
In high-resolution mode, the sensor achieves a resolution of over 6 Pa, equivalent to 40 cm altitude accuracy on an altimeter. The update rate directly influences resolution, speed, and power usage, allowing users to configure the device according to their requirements. Notably, in ultra-low power mode, the sensor consumes as little as 3–4 µA, making it highly suitable for battery-powered devices. The SCP1000 is an excellent choice for next-generation consumer electronics and industrial products, capable of precisely measuring cumulative elevation gain during activities like sports and fitness training, helping track performance and energy expenditure.
Its high-speed performance across a wide temperature range also makes it ideal for extreme environments such as skydiving and gliding. Additionally, it can be used for local weather forecasting and oxygen pressure monitoring in outdoor and work settings. The sensor’s small size and precision make it valuable in medical applications, including blood pressure and intracranial pressure monitoring.
VTI has long been a global leader in designing and manufacturing motion and pressure sensors, including accelerometers, for the automotive industry. Their capacitive silicon-based products utilize advanced 3D MEMS technology for accurate measurements of acceleration, tilt, and impact, widely used in vibration monitoring systems.
As a market leader in low-range accelerometers, VTI holds a 50% share in the global automotive sector, driven by its cutting-edge technology, innovative product designs, and reliable performance. The company is part of the EQT III private equity fund, with annual sales reaching €6.2 million in 2004 and employing around 700 people. Based in Finland, VTI operates through a global sales network that includes subsidiaries in Germany, the U.S., China, and Japan, as well as regional offices across Europe. In addition to its headquarters in Vantaa, Finland, VTI also maintains a production facility in Mexico.
