In a recent development, Jiaozuo City in Henan Province held a special planning meeting focused on upgrading its chemical industry structure and showcasing major projects in the chemical sector. Renowned experts from several key industry associations, including the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, the Institute of Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning, the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association, and the China Chlor-Alkali Industry Association, participated in the event to evaluate and discuss the city's chemical industrial framework.
According to official data, Jiaozuo plans to launch 74 chemical projects between 2008 and 2015, with a total investment of 49.3 billion yuan. The projects include 6 chlor-alkali initiatives worth 4.2 billion yuan, 7 titanium dioxide projects valued at 3.6 billion yuan, 16 coal chemical projects totaling 33 billion yuan, 13 fluorine chemical projects amounting to 1.7 billion yuan, and 32 other chemical projects requiring 6.8 billion yuan. Among these, nine projects have a total investment exceeding one billion yuan, such as a 200,000-ton-per-year ion-exchange membrane caustic soda and polyvinyl chloride project by Coking Coal Group, and a 200,000-ton rutile titanium dioxide project by Henan Weililian Co., Ltd.
Currently, the city’s chemical industry is built around four main industrial chains: chlor-alkali, titanium dioxide, coal chemical, and fluorine chemical. Experts believe that the proposed key chemical projects will significantly enhance the overall level of the industry, optimize its structure, boost product value, expand and strengthen competitive industries, and promote economic growth in Jiaozuo and the broader central region. This strategic initiative is seen as a crucial step toward achieving leapfrog development in the area.
