Soil testing and formula fertilization in Hanzhong continue to develop in depth

Soil testing and formula fertilization is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing overall agricultural productivity. It is a key policy implemented by the party and government to support modern agriculture and build a new socialist countryside. This program plays a vital role in advancing agricultural technology, boosting production capacity, ensuring national food security, and increasing farmers' income. In 2007, to further implement this initiative, agricultural departments across Hanzhong City focused on critical aspects such as soil measurement, fertilizer distribution, production, supply, and application, leading to significant achievements in the city's soil testing and fertilization efforts. In 2007, soil testing and fertilization were carried out comprehensively in 11 counties of Hanzhong, including Yangxian, Nanzheng, Jingxian, Chenggu, Hantai, Xixiang, Ningqiang, Lueyang, Liuuba, Zhenba, and Foping. Notably, Yangxian, Nanzheng, Jixian, and Chenggu, which are designated as project subsidy counties, made remarkable progress in publicity, training, sample collection, testing, formula development, and fertilizer distribution networks. A total of 1.932 million mu of soil was tested, covering rice (793,000 mu), corn (255,000 mu), rape (496,000 mu), and wheat (388,000 mu). Over 8,100 soil and plant samples were collected and analyzed, with 283,000 fertilizer recommendation cards issued. The coverage rate of these cards reached 98% in the project areas. A total of 3,414 tests and 82 comparative experiments were conducted, and 113,000 tons of formula and specialized fertilizers were applied. Additionally, 8,000 households were surveyed, and 139 demonstration plots were established across county and township agro-technical stations, covering nearly 145,000 mu. There were 78 farmer observation sites, 5 state-level long-term monitoring points, and 45 inspection sites for soil fertility. More than 160 technical training sessions were held, training over 7,800 key technicians, and reaching approximately 325,000 farmers. As a result, the average yield per mu increased by 42.7 yuan, with an additional net profit of 27.6 yuan per mu due to optimized fertilizer use. The overall economic benefit amounted to more than 53.32 million yuan. To ensure effective implementation, the project adopted several measures and innovations. First, clear responsibilities were assigned, and strict supervision and inspections were conducted. At the start of 2007, a mobilization meeting was held involving county and district soil and fertilizer station chiefs. Work leadership groups and technical steering teams were formed, and responsibility statements were signed. All counties developed detailed implementation plans and set up technical guidance agencies. From July 2007, four key subsidy counties were inspected, covering institutions, personnel, test areas, and laboratories. Exchanges with other provinces and cities helped improve practices. Before autumn sowing, experience-sharing and technical seminars were organized to address issues and correct technical deviations. These efforts ensured smooth project execution. Second, various forms of technical publicity and training were used. Graphic exhibition boards were created, and propaganda vehicles were deployed to villages to promote soil testing and formula fertilization. Radio, TV, and online platforms were utilized to spread information. Village bulletin boards were set up, and technical materials were distributed. Soil testing and formula fertilization cards were handed out to farmers, raising awareness about scientific fertilization, fertilizer identification, and rational usage. This enhanced farmers’ knowledge and improved their fertilizer efficiency, contributing to better agricultural outcomes and environmental protection.
