House fire in Prospect Heights, 1-26-22

**From the Prospect Heights Fire District:** *FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* **January 26, 2022** Prospect Heights – On Wednesday, January 26 at 7:48 p.m., the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District responded to a reported fire at 108 Patricia in Prospect Heights. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a two-story home with fire in the attic. Thick smoke was visible from all roof eaves, but the flames had not yet spread into the main structure of the house. Within minutes, the first engine crew deployed a hose line and quickly brought the initial fire under control. Crews then focused on extinguishing the fire in the attic and roof area. At the same time, a full search of the home was conducted to ensure that no residents were inside. The fire was fully extinguished within 20 minutes using two hose lines and over a dozen fire apparatus. Approximately 40 firefighters were involved in the response. Firefighters spent nearly an hour inspecting the structure for any remaining hot spots or signs of spreading fire to make sure the blaze was completely out. A total of five engines, five water tankers, two aerial ladders, two ambulances, one rescue unit, and several chief officers were on scene. In addition to the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and the Wheeling Fire Department, help came from the Des Plaines, Glenview, Mount Prospect, and Libertyville fire departments, as well as the Elk Grove Township, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Long Grove fire protection districts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Prospect Heights Fire Protection District reminds residents to always have two escape routes from their homes, ensure smoke alarms are working properly, and develop an emergency plan in case of a fire or other disaster. Fire sprinklers can save lives and reduce property damage. If this home had been equipped with a fire sprinkler system, the fire would likely have been suppressed before firefighters arrived or at the very least contained to the room where it started. *Photo by Larry Shapiro*
