Park Ridge house fire 2-15-14

This is from Larry Shapiro:

A call came in to the Park Ridge Fire Department shortly before 10 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014, reporting a house fire at 102 S. Chester. As units were en route, they spotted a header and arrived at the corner of Chester and Garden to find the back porch on fire and a worker with burn injuries. The incident was upgraded to a Code 4 due to the active fire. Upon arrival, Engine 35 encountered a frozen hydrant, so firefighters hand-jacked hose from Tower 36 to another hydrant half a block south.

Fire companies quickly brought the main fire under control, but found limited access to the second floor. The house was unoccupied at the time and appeared to be in the final stages of renovation. Several departments responded, including Park Ridge Engine 35, Tower 36, both Park Ridge ambulances, and Battalion 35. Additional mutual aid units from Rosemont, Niles, Morton Grove, Norwood Park, North Maine, Lincolnwood, and Elk Grove Village also arrived on scene.

I arrived after the fire had been extinguished and have several photos of the scene. The fire was contained to the rear of the house, and the situation was handled efficiently despite the challenges, such as the frozen hydrant.
